    Our internships provide you with an opportunity to combine real-life work experiences with classroom and technical training. We will introduce you to the reinsurance industry and equip you with a strong foundation to develop your skills in the business world.  

    We seek students who are dedicated to expanding their capabilities and realizing their potential. We are looking for well-rounded, energetic, and talented students who possess the following criteria:

    • Registered in an Internship program at a University, as well as recent graduates who have obtained their degree within the past year
    • Majoring in actuarial science, statistics, mathematics, economics, accounting, finance, business administration, data science or related field
    • Participation in extracurricular activities
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities
    • Excellent communications skills; both verbal and written
    • Interest and willingness to learn a variety of new information in a  fast paced environment

    Recruiting timetable
    Internship opportunities are typically posted four months in advance of the work term (i.e. Summer work term roles are posted in January). In addition to our Career Site, we also post our roles with a many universities across the US. We have a limited number of roles each term in Actuarial Science, Data Science and Data Engineering.

    Each year we have a limited number of full time Actuarial positions available for graduating students. These positions provide an excellent opportunity for students looking to launch their career in a competitive and fast paced industry. Please visit our Job search page for available positions which are generally posted in August.

    Eligibility and criteria 
    For our New Graduate hiring cycle, students must be completing an Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Statistics degree program Individuals who have graduated more than a year prior to application should review our current positions available within our Professional Opportunities. In addition, we generally look for the following qualifications:

    • Recent ASA or progressing towards attainment of ASA
    • 0-3 years experience in the US Life and Health insurance/reinsurance industry (internships included)
    • Participation in extracurricular activities
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities
    • Excellent communications skills; both verbal and written
    • Interest and willingness to learn a variety of new information in a dynamic and fast paced environment.

    Recruiting timetable
    Our new graduate recruitment cycle takes place annually in the Fall, with available positions posted on our Careers page in August. We conduct on-campus interviews throughout September, and invite a select number of candidates to an on-site interview in our New York office.* Final offers are usually presented between September and October. Successful candidates would then begin their role with us in the following year.

    Originating in 2015, the Munich Re Cup is now the premier North American wide, Actuarial Case Competition. It’s open to SOA Centre of Excellence universities designed to provide students with an opportunity to develop and apply their analytical, presentation and problem solving skills to a real-world business problem. Students will be given networking opportunities that will provide them with exposure to Munich Re executives, and industry professionals, including a chance to win cash prizes. 

    Munich Re’s Summer Leadership Development Program introduces you to the Munich Re culture, people, and practices. From day one, you will be participating in a variety of projects that impact our organization and the insurance industry as a whole. In addition, the Summer Leadership Development Program prepares potential candidates for the International Graduate Trainee Program.

    Develop your leadership skills and collaborate with exceptional individuals, from all disciplines and diverse backgrounds, to find answers to the most pressing issues today.

    Program Description:

    Foundational coursework
    Study with a purpose utilizing real life situation, business case studies, and small group projects led by senior Munich Re members of various disciplines

    Rotational assignments
    Gain industry experience alongside subject matter experts while making a meaningful contribution to one of the top reinsurers in the U.S. Rotational assignments span one to three months, instilling competencies such as primary insurance, innovation, contracts, actuarial pricing, reinsurance underwriting, claims, IT/ata science/data engineering, and actuarial reserving.

    Business skills development
    Become a polished professional by building a unique skillset with training courses and seminars in topics such as language and culture, communication, negotiation, networking, and presentations.
