Types of engineering careers we offer
Engineer Surveyors
From boilers and lifts, to mobile cranes and air conditioning systems, our Engineer Surveyors inspect plant and machinery across all industry sectors. The role of an Engineer Surveyor is hands on and requires technical expertise in all disciplines – lift and crane, pressure, electrical, LEV and power press.
The nature of the role means that Engineer Surveyors need to be highly organised, technically expert, motivated and flexible. Our Engineer Surveyors operate within a defined career structure that recognises and rewards against achievable objectives. The structure includes higher level positions that include NVQ Assessors and Technical Trainers.

Principal Engineers
Technically expert, our Principal Engineers work with our engineering team to provide advice and guidance on inspection-related issues such as equipment, best practice and legislation. From steam-powered boats and locomotive engines to power stations, mobile cranes and a wide range of specialist mechanical and electrical systems, our Principal Engineers set and communicate the standards our Engineer Surveyors operate within.
The role also includes working with outside committees (such as the Safety Assessment Federation) to help create approved British working practices and standards within engineering inspection.
Regional Engineering Managers
Our Regional Engineering Managers are responsible for managing a multi-skilled team of field-based Engineer Surveyors, providing support with engineering inspections and liaising with customers to ensure high quality contract delivery. From inspecting a mobile crane, coaching an Engineer Surveyor or attending a client meeting, the variety of the role means that no two days are the same.
Regional Engineering Managers must be organised, customer focused, collaborative and highly motivated.
I really enjoy the variety of my role. One day, I can be on the jib of a tower crane and the next, inspecting an escalator in a shopping centre. No two days are the same.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) foster innovation and resilience and enable us to act braver and better. Embracing the power of DEI is at the core of who we are. At HSB, we recognise diversity can be multi-dimensional, intersectional, and complex, so we want to build a diverse workforce that includes a wide range of racial, ethnic, sexual, and gender identities; economic and geographic backgrounds; physical abilities; ages; life, school, and career experiences; and political, religious, and personal beliefs. Additionally, we are committed to building an equitable and inclusive work environment where this diversity is celebrated, valued, and has equitable opportunities to succeed.
All candidates in consideration for any role can request a reasonable adjustment at any point in our recruitment process.
