Biography

Matthew Johnson joined HSB UK and Ireland in 2020 and was appointed to Chief People Officer in 2024, responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the HR team; including talent management and development strategies. From 2022 to 2024, Matthew was Director of Human Resources, and from 2020 to 2022, was Head of Human Resources.

Prior to joining HSB, Matthew was Head of Reward for Munich Re UK and Ireland Group. He began his career in a recruitment role at The Computer Team Group, and has subsequently held various HR roles within EC Harris, BDO, Steria and Adecco.

Matthew has over 25 years' experience in HR leadership, recruitment, and reward and compensation. 

Matthew holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Civilisation from Leeds University and a MA in Personnel and Development from Westminster University. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

Outside of his role, Matthew is Chair of the Board of Trustees for Guildford Action, a charity focused on supporting and enhancing the lives of the most vulnerable people in his local community.
