Jurisdictional inspection requirements for Ontario
Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) regulations for boilers and pressure vessels
Ontario law requires routine jurisdictional inspections of boilers and pressure vessels to ensure they’re in safe working order.
If a policy includes equipment breakdown coverage for boilers and pressure vessels, we will continue to complete the required inspections and file a Record of Inspection with TSSA on behalf of the policyholder for no additional charge.
The policyholder is required to obtain the Certificate of Inspection from TSSA for a fee. For more information, visit TSSA’s website.
To facilitate this process, fill in and submit this form.
Ontario boiler and pressure vessel regulations for agricultural operations
On July 17th, 2020, it was announced that all boilers and pressure vessels used exclusively for agricultural purposes must comply with the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Regulation in Ontario (O. Reg 220/01). Previously, agricultural boilers and pressure vessels had been exempted from requiring Certificates of Inspection. This updated regulation will require owners and operators of boilers and pressure equipment in use for agricultural purposes to:
1. Provide Boiler and Pressure Vessel equipment information in writing to TSSA as soon as possible and;
2. Comply with Ontario Regulation 220/01 by July 1st 2021.
The agricultural exemption revocation will bring consistency across Canada and reduce the risk to public safety in the agricultural sector.
For more information, visit TSSA’s website.

Quebec - Jurisdictional inspections of pressure vessels
As specified in the Regulation respecting pressure installations (Réglementation sur les installations sous pression), it is the responsibility of the owner-user of a pressure installation to have it inspected by a recognized person (an organization recognized by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec) to issue certificates of conformity for applicable objects within the regulation.
HSB is recognized by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) and has a local team of experienced inspectors with all the required qualifications and certifications. We provide the periodic inspections and the certifications required to comply with the current regulations for your pressure vessel installations.
To facilitate this process, fill in and submit this form.
Should you have any questions regarding the Quebec regulations, we recommend consulting the Régie du Bâtiment du Québec's website (RBQ).
