Management

In line with the fast-changing markets, our Board of Management coordinates and monitors the most important activities of Great Lakes. In setting objectives and determining the strategy, the Board of Management maintains a clear focus on long-term value for our clients, staff and company.

The Supervisory Board monitors and advises the Board of Management on all important matters. It is responsible for surveying the financial statements, fulfilling reporting requirements towards shareholders and appointing the Board of Management as well as the auditor.

Christoph Carus
Chief Executive Officer

Chair of the Board of Management since March 2021

Christoph joined the Great Lakes Board as Chief Executive Officer in 2021. He has been with Munich Re Group since 2001 holding different senior management functions in the finance area for the Munich and Sydney offices.

At Great Lakes, Christoph is responsible for Strategy & Principles of Business Policy, Data & Digital Transformation, Claims, Projects & Business Development, Corporate Organization, Internal Audit, Information Technology, as well as Human Resources.

Stéphane Deutscher

Member of the Board of Management since April 2017

Stéphane joined the Great Lakes Board in 2017. Previously, he worked for Munich Re Group in the direct business since 2003 where he held various senior manager positions.

At Great Lakes, Stéphane is responsible Board memeber for Delegated Authority and Co-Insurance Business Division comprising of DA Business Management, DA Regions, DA Underwriting & Products, DA Customer Oversight and DA Audit & Assurance.

Claire Weston

Member of the Board of Management since September 2024

Claire joined the Great Lakes Board in 2024, having worked for Munich Re Group since 2014. During this time she held several senior management roles in the UK, across Life and Non-Life. Until recently, Claire was also the CEO of Great Lakes UK Subsidiary. Claire continues to be the appointed Head of Great Lakes UK Branch.

At Great Lakes, Claire is responsible for Single Risk and Retro Business division comprising of SR Binding & Underwriting, GL F&C (Facultative & Corporate), Credit, UW Oversight & Analytics, Reinsurance and Branch Retrocession.

Dr. Stefan Pasternak
Chief Financial Officer

Member of the Board of Management since April 2014

Stefan joined the Great Lakes Board in 2014 as Chief Financial Officer, having worked for Munich Re Group on the direct and reinsurance side since 1999.

During his time he held several senior management roles in different countries and (re)insurance companies and has led many business initiatives as well as strategic projects in the finance area.

At Great Lakes, Stefan is responsible for all Finance related topics, Procurement as well as the Actuarial Function.

Dr. Tobias Klauß

Member of the Board of Management since January 2017

Tobias joined the Great Lakes Board in 2017, having worked for Munich Re Group since 2007 in various Risk Management roles.

During this time he held several senior management positions in the UK and Germany and has led complex regulatory and strategic projects and change programs.

At Great Lakes, Tobias is responsible for Risk Management, Compliance, Legal, Regulatory Office and Services.
