    Great Lakes Germany Head Office

    Our headquarters in Munich, Germany, are the centre of most high-level decision-making and responsible for the overall European business with customers and partners. The proximity to our parent company Munich Re enables ongoing coordination of our business.

    Great Lakes Insurance SE is authorised and regulated by the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority of Germany (Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht or BaFin).

    Great Lakes UK Branch

    After Brexit we maintain our strong presence in the United Kingdom and play a key role in the Munich Re Group Brexit Strategy as carrier for the non-life single risk business.

    The UK Branch operates as a Third Country Branch and is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority. Subject to regulation by the Financial Conduct Authority and limited regulation by the Prudential Regulation Authority.

    Great Lakes UK Subsidiary

    Great Lakes Insurance UK Limited is a subsidiary of Great Lakes Insurance SE. 

    Great Lakes Insurance UK Limited enjoys the same credit rating as its parent company (S&P AA-; A.M. Best A+) and is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA reference number: 955859) and the Prudential Regulation Authority.

    As of 1 January 2023, the subsidiary writes our UK Delegated Authority and Coinsurance Business.

    Great Lakes Australian Branch

    The Australian Branch of Great Lakes is licensed by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, holds an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL No. 318603) and is authorised by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority to operate as a general insurer in Australia. The Australian Branch was established in 2008.

    The Australian Branch is based in Sydney and is responsible for facilitation of the Australian Underwriting Agency and Corporate Large Single Risk business.

    Great Lakes Irish Branch

    The Irish Branch gives us a presence in the Dublin market that we use to serve our customers and partners in Europe for the classes of business credit and suretyship.

    A dedicated team of experts in Dublin provides credit risk solutions throughout the European Economic Area under the Freedom to Provide Services. This specialised business is about providing credit risk transfer/regulatory capital relief solutions to financial institutions and is conducted in close collaboration with the parent company Munich Re which provides reinsurance capacity.


    Great Lakes Italian Branch


    The Italian Branch is subject to limited regulation by the Italian regulator IVASS with respect to operational aspects of consumer protection.

    We established the Italian Branch to serve and to be close to our customers and partners in Italy.

     

    Great Lakes Swiss Branch


    The Swiss Branch is authorised by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) to conduct insurance business in Switzerland. The Swiss Branch was established in 2008.

    We established the Swiss Branch to serve our customers and agents located in Switzerland.
