Greater China is one of the fastest-growing insurance markets in the world. Munich Re operates two branch offices in the region, one in Hong Kong and one in Beijing. Each is a landmark in its own right: the Hong Kong Branch was established in 1962, and in 2003 the Beijing Branch was the first to receive a foreign reinsurance licence in China. Additionally, Munich Re has a representative office in Shanghai and a liaison office in Taipei.

In 2010, Munich Re created a virtual Greater China underwriting team, dynamically allocating resources among the regions by synergising expertise. A broad spectrum of experienced non-life underwriters is now ready to serve clients of diverse risk appetites with a consistent approach across mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan without geographic boundaries.
