SystemAgro at the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture

Munich Re was represented at the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) in Berlin for the second time, highlighting its SystemAgro crop insurance system. It became clear once again that public-private partnerships will play a key role in crop insurance solutions in future.

The conference was held during the International Green Week in Berlin, the world’s largest agricultural fair, providing a forum for governmental and non-governmental organisations, agricultural enterprises and the food industry, associations and the media. Among the participants were approx. 50 ministers of agriculture and their delegations. The forum was an ideal platform for presenting SystemAgro to an expert audience. One thing became clear from the many discussions with participants: A concerted effort at national level is key to supporting the agricultural sector in the long term. And this is precisely where SystemAgro comes in.

Following a keynote speech by Klaus Töpfer on fundamental aspects of food security and environmental protection, Thomas Blunck, member of the Board of Management at Munich Re, gave a presentation on “Climate change and agricultural risk management” and introduced the SystemAgro solution. “SystemAgro enables the agricultural sector to control income fluctuations and can thus help to sustainably achieve food security for a growing global population against the background of climate change”, emphasised Thomas Blunck.
